Happy New Year! It feels like forever since I have shared an update on projects. With all the fun 2020 puns going around, I could easily say it feels like a decade since I last posted. (Thanks, it feels much better having that out of my system.)
I got some incredibly amazing news that I had to share. Loan Stars came out with their January and February 2020 top 10 adult books about to be released, and included BIG: Stories About Life in Plus-Sized Bodies. How the heck did that happen??
As a book lover, I have always held librarians in high esteem. I have a special reverence for someone’s position devoted to storing, retrieving and finding information. It’s part technology, culture and social development. Ever been to a library story-time session with children? That is some magic right there.
I was hoping that a few more people than just my parents, siblings and family might read the anthology. In libraries across the country?!? Wowzas. Many thanks to Loan Stars for acknowledging the valuable stories to come in this anthology.
What is Loan Stars?
Loan Stars’ monthly lists of the top upcoming books are recommended by library staff across Canada and organized by BookNet Canada with support from the Canadian Urban Libraries Council (CULC/CBUC). Check out what they have to say on their website, located at loanstars.ca.
Loan Stars is the readers’ advisory tool that allows library staff across Canada to collaboratively select their favourite forthcoming titles. Using CataList, the online catalogue service available for free to libraries, library staff can endorse the fiction, non-fiction, juvenile, and young adult titles they want to recommend to their patrons. The titles with the most recommendations become Loan Stars picks.Loan Stars website: loanstars.ca
Clearly the team at Caitlin Press, which is publishing the anthology, works closely with BookNet Canada and CataList to get BIG on their radar. Bravo, CP!
When will the book be released?
I get this question a lot. Like a lot, a lot. We have just heard from Caitlin Press that the official publication date is Feb. 14, 2020. The one-month countdown is on! So excited.
If you would like a signed copy from me, here’s the link to take part in my pre-order. This will be open until the 1st week of February, and then I have to submit my order to Caitlin Press.
Once Feb. 14 rolls around, then it will be available on Amazon and several retail stores. But if you really want to support writers, then purchase a copy from your local independent bookstore. Those sales boost a book’s ranking and supports the wider publishing industry.
Overall, I’m amazed, astounded and humbled by the support the collection has received to date. Looking forward to seeing where this train takes us!
